Pages: I am so very lucky to be acquainted with many Indie authors. I never read Leland Dirks until Jimmy Mender and I must say it is one of the best books I have ever read by any author. To put it simply, this book is a gift to the reading world.

Have you ever read a book and then, when it was time to write a review, just didn’t have the words to describe how it made you feel? Please forgive me if I struggle with this. Yes; it is THAT good! Books with a small-town feel to them have always appealed to me, but there was something special about Jimmy Mender. It wasn’t just the quaint towns and descriptions, it was the characters and the richness of the plot. There are not many books out there that evoke several emotions in one story, but I was on a constant roller coaster from the time I began reading. I laughed, I cried, I empathized, I cheered… Jimmy Mender can (and will) touch the hearts of every person who is lucky enough to lay eyes upon it.

I think one of my favorite reasons for loving this book is that there is closure at the end. No one is left hurting or wondering. Is it a happy ending? Maybe not, but Paul (one of the main characters) learns the truth – not just about Jimmy, but about himself and what he really wants out of life. He learns to accept and move on, which is a valuable lesson. What I found funny is that Paul never realized that he and Jimmy were a lot alike. They both helped so many people, but could never apply their advice to their own lives and situations.

If you only read one book this year, please make it Jimmy Mender and His Miracle Dog. Trust me, you’ll thank me for it later. Leland and Angelo Dirks are now two of my favorite authors and I look forward to reading more beautiful stories from them!

ISBN: Against the backdrop of the American Pacific coast, one man pursues a dream of what might have been, while another man runs away. Somewhere along the way, they lose their expectations and fears, learning instead to value what is. Their unlikely teacher is a Border Collie with a mission of her own. Add a few little miracles, and you've got the recipe for a perfect unrequited love story, finally put right in a most unexpected way.

From the authors of Angelo's Journey and Seven Dogs in Heaven, a reminder that sometimes, the only way to figure out what really matters is to leave everything behind.
The paperback edition also includes a bonus of 15 short stories, previously only available in ebook format.

Jimmy Mender's Miracle Dog is the most ambitious project yet from this human and canine team. A story that takes the reader from San Francisco to Alaska with a gay advice columnist following a cowboy. Phannie, a wandering Border Collie, finds a way to make it all make sense.

A story that will appeal to dog lovers, romantics, and adventurists.

This has got to be the best book yet by Leland and I highly recommend reading it as its very different and believable. I like how the author didn't even have to include sexually graphic scenes to make this a great read. Yet you could see and feel the attraction and complications presented ...and not be offended by it in any way. A lot of feelings are explored and seem to be unanswered but eventually we do get an answer to even our own questions. Jimmy and Paul are fellow boarders in a rooming house in San Francisco and the story goes from there as they became friends and maybe even more than friends. The very surprising twist at the end will catch you completely off guard as you will never suspect it. There's a little bit of paranormal like things happening but once you've read the entire story its very believable that it could have really happened mostly in dreams. Liked the way the author tied up everything in the Epilogue and did not leave us hanging like some authors do and then the author even let's us know the relation of some of the characters in the story to real life people and animals so that if you are a facebook fan of Leland and Angelo Dirks (the author and his canine author) you get some of those questions answered too. Very well written story and I highly recommend you read this one for something different and personal, yet it will really pull you in making you want to read the next chapter to find out what happens next, I had a very hard time putting this one down!
